Hours:

  • Full Time
  • Our surgery center is open Monday-Friday, 6:30am-5:00pm
    • Your shift will fall within these hours.
    • You may need to work a little earlier/later as needed.
  • No late nights, weekends or on-call shifts!

 

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required in the state you will be working in is required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
  • Experience working in ICU, Critical Care and/or PACU is strongly preferred
  • Pre-Admission Testing experience preferred

SUMMARY
A Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient preparation of patients for surgical or invasive procedures. They assess patients' medical histories, perform necessary tests, and collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure that patients are optimally prepared for their procedures. They play a vital role in preventing surgical cancellations by ensuring all documentation, labs, and clearances are completed and educating patients on pre-op protocols.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize a computer database to obtain and document information on surgical patients.
  • Conduct a phone assessment of each surgical patient to obtain medical and medication history.
  • Evaluate patients for allergies and reconcile with pre-operative eye drops.
  • Communicate with Surgery Schedulers regarding patient needs and pre-surgical paperwork.
  • Communicate with Primary Care Physicians, Cardiologists, Oncologists, etc. to obtain necessary information for appropriate medical evaluation pre-operatively.
  • Communicate directly with the Anesthesia staff and Surgeons to ensure all questions regarding pre-operative patients are answered prior to surgery to ensure a smooth schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Experience working in ICU, Critical Care and/or PACU is strongly preferred
  • Pre-Admission Testing experience preferred

 

LICENSES AND CREDENTIALS 

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located is required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred

SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY  

  • Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment 
  • Become proficient in the use of NextGen and ModMed databases 
  • Have proficiency in Microsoft Word 
  • Be able to operate printer, copier, telephone, and fax 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required 100% of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary.

 

ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS

  • Regular exposure to blood and body substances
  • Exposure to needle sticks possible

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works in well-lit and ventilated surroundings including pre-operative/PACU areas, Nurses’ stations, procedure rooms, lounge, etc.
  • May occasionally be exposed to outside environment
