JOB TITLE: Nurse Manager, ASC

DEPARTMENT: Pre-Operative/ PACU

REPORTS TO:  ASC Administrator 

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Manager assists in daily function of the Ophthalmology Surgery Center in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and policies and procedures. Responsibilities include with interviewing, hiring and training new employees; planning, assigning, and directing clinical staff; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems both internal and external; insuring timely maintenance of equipment, in pre/post op. Assuring an adequate supply of inventory, and complete and accurate medical records.

  • Teamwork / Delegation - Balances team and individual responsibilities; Includes staff in planning, decision-making, facilitating and process improvement; Makes self available to staff; Delegates work assignments; Sets expectations and monitors delegated activities; Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • Quality Management - Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Attends required meetings; Continually works to improve supervisory skills; Develops and implements cost saving measures; Follows instructions, responds to management direction.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Dependability/ Attendance – Experience working as an RN in an Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC); Follows policies and procedures; Complies with reporting adverse incidents; Supports organization's goals and values; Supports affirmative action and respects diversity; Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; Sets goals and objectives; Is, consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; uses equipment and materials according to manufacturer’s instructions; Maintains and renews professional license in a timely manner; Participates in QAPI and Infection Control Plan and encourages staff participation and compliance.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/ REGISTRATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current Illinois RN License, BCLS, and ACLS required
  • Three (3) years’ experience as a PACU nurse
  • Leadership and PACU experience within the last five years
  • Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS/COMPUTER SKILLS

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Payroll systems and Microsoft Word/ Excel
  • Printer, copier, telephone, and fax
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must be able to:

  • Walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally be able to push up to an excess of 200 pounds
  • Occasionally be able to pull/ lift patients with the assistance of other personnel and or assistive devices, up to an excess of 400-500 pounds
  • Occasionally be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb

ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS

  • Regular exposure to blood and body substances
  • Exposure to needle sticks possible
  • Blood Borne pathogen risk classification category #1
  • Exposure to substances/chemicals i.e. alcohol, peroxide, bleach

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works in well-lit and ventilated surroundings including pre-operative/ PACU areas, nurse's stations, procedure rooms, lounge, etc.
  • May occasionally be exposed to outside environment

DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Scheduling, supervision, guidance, and discipline of staff
  • Physician relations and problem solving
  • Coordinate with medical records to ensure compliance
  • Employee health (staff, physicians, anesthesia)
  • Medication inventory, narcotic logs, and controlled substance management
  • Medical gasses
  • Recall tracking
  • Femtosecond laser
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Staff Education
